Wuxi is one of the world’s top cities in the new energy industry, taking a lead in PV solar and wind power areas. In 2018, the city's new energy industry realized RMB 63.98 billion yuan in sales, an 8% YOY increase. Among them, solar photovoltaic industry achieved RMB 40.025 billion yuan, and wind power industry was RMB 23.958 billion yuan.

(1) PV Solar

Wuxi is the birthplace of China's PV solar industry, with nearly 60 above-scale enterprises in solar photovoltaic and application, 114 supporting enterprises and service organizations, forming a complete industrial chain with solid industrial foundation. Till now, with a solid industrial foundation, Wuxi has nearly formed a complete industrial chain composed by mono-crystalline lifting, poly-crystalline ingot casting, slicing and polishing, solar cell and solar module manufacturing, solar system and equipment manufacturing, with silicon-based solar cells as the core product.

 (2) Wind Power

Wuxi has basically formed an industrial pattern of wind power equipments, featuring mutual supporting development among key components including WTGS (wind turbine generator system), special steel, hub, tower base, main spindle, etc. Over 50% of wind power equipment components can be sourced locally. More than 40 over-scaled companies in the industry of wind power equipments and systems have formed a complete industrial chain. In 2018, the sales of wind power industry increased 31.23%. Wuxi ranks No.1 in China in terms of overall competitiveness in turbine manufacturing, and No.2 in wind farm operation.
